The sale of Fullmetal Alchemist manga was a complete success during this year's XII Salón del Manga de Barcelona. Norma Editorial sold 6,000 copies in just three days, and is already printing the second edition. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of Norma Editorial's fastest selling manga at the moment.

According to an update on Right Stuf, Del Rey has licensed Princess Resurrection by Mitsunaga Yasunori, and will release it in May of 2007.

On September 29th, a celebration was held at an Italian restaurant in Tokyko for Hirohiko Araki celebrating his 25th year as a mangaka. Hirohiko Araki debuted in 1981 with the manga Buso Poker, he has since then created many works, one of the most well-known of which was JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, a long running shonen manga that's currently serialized in Ultra Jump (under the name Steel Ball Run).

One of the highlights during the celebration was "JoJo Gymnastics," during which Hirohiko Araki performed various scenes from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with great enthusiasm. Below are a few shots taken during the show:

Shuiesha has recently announced the manga adaption of the XBox 360 RPG Blue Dragon. The new manga, called "Blue Dragon ST," will be drawn by Ami Shibata (Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun, Freeman Hero) and will begin serialization in the January issue of Monthly Shonen Jump, on sale December 16th.

Blue Dragon is a XBox 360 game developed by Mistwalker, under the direction of Hironobu Sakaguchi (father of the Final Fantasy series), and features artwork from Akira Toriyama.

ActiveAnime reports that VIZ Media has named Marc Weidenbaum to be its new Vice President, Magazines and Editor-in-Chief of Shonen Jump Magazine and SHojo Beat Magazine.

Marc Weidenbaum started at VIZ Media as the Managing Editor of SHONEN JUMP and was promoted to Editorial Director, when he helped launch the successful NARUTO Collector series of magazines.

From 801 Media comes a new feature called "801 Employee Spotlight," where 801 staffs talk about themselves through an informal interview. The first interview features 801 Media production manager Kampai.

The first issue of a new bi-monthly josei magazine from Poplar Sha, called Comic Pianissimo, will be released on 11/11. The magazine will serialize novels and manga and will sell for 390 yen.

Manga Jouhou translates an article concerning sexually explicit content appearing in shojo manga. While parents are concerned, the publishers respond by saying: "Love is a big theme in shoujo manga. It is impossible to shut out sexual behaviors, as they are an extension of love." and that "in today's society, children understand that rape and perverts exist. Getting to know them from fictional works like manga will help them understand reality. There has yet to be any cases of crime committed because of manga. If parents feel that there is a problem, they should talk to their children about these manga."

While neither the manga or the anime version of Naruto has been released in the Portuguese language, the shonen series is still extemely popular in Brazil. A poster of Naruto appeared in Brazilian magazine Futuro Comunicação, the issue also contains an article with information and images of the popular anime/manga series.

The first-ever American Anime Awards will be held at the New Yorker Hotel on February 24, 2007, hosted by NYCC.

CMX Manga has updated its "Ask CMX" column. This time CMX answers the question of how they determine the age rating of a manga, and whether they are interested in pursuing older, shonen titles.

A Japanese blog has posted a leaked scan (currently unverified) of Weekly Shonen Jump, which reveals that Takeshi Obata, artist of Hikaru no Go and Death Note, will begin a new serialization titled "Rarugurado" in Weekly Shonen Jump No.1 (New Year's issue), on sale December 4th. The issue will also come with a pencil board with original artwork from Takeshi's. At this time there has been no official confirmation regarding the new series.
