The Hachette Book Group has announced a new young men/adults oriented comic imprint called Yen Press. According to PW, "The imprint will be directed by former DC Comics v-p Rich Johnson, who joined Hachette last month, and Kurt Hassler, formerly the graphic novel buyer for the Borders Group, who will join Yen Press November 27." Kurt Hassler recently ranked No.1 on ICv2's "Ten Most Powerful People in Manga" list.

From Active Anime comes an interview with BL mangaka Makoto Tateno, author of DMP's Yellow and the upcoming Hero Heel. In the interview Makoto Tateno talks about how she became a mangaka, the difference between "Shounen Ai" and "Yaoi," and more. When asked if she has any current or future projects, Tateno answered, "I’m currently working on 6 different titles."

MangaBlog points out Tokyopop's new online manga preview feature, where new chapters will be posted every two weeks:

Tokyopop has reset all the online manga previews on their site to chapter 1. Every two weeks a new chapter will come up and the previous chapter will be locked. (This comes from the promotional e-mail they sent me; the info doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the site.) When you click on a locked video you still get a mysterious message about VIP membership, which makes me wonder what else they have up their sleeves.

Leiji Matsumoto (68) is known for creating Space Battleship Yamato, Captain Harlock, and many other classic series. Recently Leiji Matsumoto announced that parts of his script from Galaxy Express 999 has been stolen by the 37 years old J-Pop singer and songwriter Noriyuki Makihara, and was used in the singer's lyrics in Chemistry's recent album "Yakusoku No Basho" (Promised Place).

Although Leiji Matsumoto said that he won't incriminate the singer, he Noriyuki Makihara will apologize to him: "We are interested in his next action."

According to Leiji Matsumoto, the phrase stolen came from volume 21 of Galaxy Express 999: "時間は夢を裏切らない、夢も時間を裏切ってはならない" (The dream never fails the time, and the time also never fails the dream.) The phrase was also used in the live-action play of Galaxy Express 999. In the "Promised Place," the phrase was modified into "夢は時間を裏切らない、時間も夢を決して裏切らない" (The word order is reversed).

Brazilians fans of Saint Seiya and One Piece rejoice: Saint Seiya Hades Phase (ep 1 -13) and One Piece (ep 1 - 104) have been acquired by Rede Bandeirantes and could be aired in March 2007. The information was passed out with enthusiasm from Toei Animation to Brazilian fans. More information coming soon.

A new scholarship from Inoue Takehiko, called Slam Dunk Scholarship, was established for aspiring Japanese students planning on attending South Kent School in Connecticut "to learn English, play basketball ball, and try to get into an NCAA team." The scholarship is open to people attending 2nd-year highschool as of this October 06, loves b-ball, is born after April 2nd '89, and has parental consent. Application forms will be availalbe in January 2007.
