Rhie Won-bok of Duksung Women's University was recently accused of anti-Semitism by an activist group called the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Rhie's comic Far Country, Neighbor Country was criticized for "depicting Jewish influence in the U.S. media." According to report, Rhie apologized and expressed that "he was neither anti-Semitic nor out to criticize Jews: 'I drew the cartoons based on data I gathered while living in the U.S. for two years.'"

A new manga, Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms by Fumiyo Kouno, has appeared on Last Gasp's website. Other manga published by Last Gasp include Barefoot Gen by Keiji Nakazawa.

Mangaline Portugal will be releasing Lupin by Monkey Punch. The exact release fate and format are still unclear. According to Clubotaku, the title will contain approximately 400 pages and will costs 12 euros.

Legendary comic creator Wendy Pini ("ElfQuest") will be appearing at manga publisher Go! Comi's panel at New York Comic Con to announce a major new project, which she describes as "darkly exciting and adult oriented." The panel will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 24th. Wendy will be joined by her husband, Richard Pini, for an autograph session at Go! Comi's booth (#564) at 3:00 PM immediately after the panel.

The original 43-episode Gundam anime was first aired in 1979, and now the DVD box set is experiencing positive sales. Mangaka Emiko Sugi passed away on February 10th at the Yokohama city hospital at the age of 47. The cause of death was stomach cancer. Emiko, known for her shojo series such as Luv Clinic, Ai Girl and Get You, debuted as a mangaka in 1977. According to Shogakukan, her works have sold over 18,000,000 volumes.

A new manga magazine called Lottery Manga Monthly was recently released in Taiwan by Bohai Publishing. Lottery Manga Monthly is one of the recipient of the "1996 Comic Periodical Publications Grant," and receives 300,000 Taiwan dollars each month, for up to 12 months. Lottery Manga Monthly will serialize original manga series created by Taiwan artists.

The mascot for the 3rd China International Animation and Cartoon Festival has been announced. The mascot, a currently unnamed monkey, is based on Son Goku from Journey to the West (Saiyuki), one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.

Ivrea Publishing has announced that it will release Battle Club manga by Yuji Shiozaki (Ikkitousen) in Argentina this month. The series is about the story of a guy named Mokichi, his school, and adventures of love. The title is currently serialized in the bi-weekly magazine Young King in Japan.

Idol Master XENOGLOSSIA, a manga based on the yet-to-be-released anime, will begin serialization in Comptiq Ace Vol 12 (2/26). My-Re Kurosaki will be in charge of the art. This manga is different from Idol Master relations which is based on the game version of Idol Master and began serialization in the March issue of Ichijinsha's Comic REX.
