With Comiket 73 underway, the 4th and final volume of Type-Moon’s Fate/zero is out! Looks like some interesting stuff is happening in the book, and several unexpected plot twists…
1. Berserker really is Lancelot. While battling Saber, Kariya runs out of magic (and proceeds to disintegrates into worms, which is used on Sakura later).
Usually when a Master runs out of magic, the Servant can still survive for a few hours, but since Berserker was using up so much mana, it goes the way of its master in a matter of seconds. So Lancelot dies in Saber’s arms, and Saber swears to get the Grail.
2. Maiya had a child a long time ago and. After being hit by Berserker she dies protecting Irisviel.
Saber comes via a Command Spell, sees Rider, thinks Rider kidnapped Irisviel, thus begin the big Saber (motorcycle) vs. Rider (Noble Phantasms chariot) battle, ending with Saber Excaliburing Rider’s chariot into pieces. Rider switch to his horse. Waver uses up all his Command Spell asking Rider to get he Grail no matter what (which really had no effect, but fully healed Rider).
Later with Rider vs. Gilgamesh, Rider tells Waver to “Live on.” Then we see Gil taking out the Ea. Later Rider gets caught in Enkidou and gets Gate of Babylon’ed. Gilgamesh spares Waver who chooses not to take revenge since Rider told him to “live.”
3. Tokiomi gives Azoth to Kotomine, gets stabbed instead, later Azoth is given back to Rin.
A few things weren’t expected…would have been nice to see Rider’s “King’s Arm” vs. Gilgamesh’s “King’s Treasury” though…
