Japanese Government Runs Anti-Bullying Ad in Manga Magazine

The Japanese government is running a full-page advertisement in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine No.52 (on sale November 29th), which read "Stop! Bullying." This is Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe instructed that the ad be published in both shonen and shoujo manga magazines for the very first time, stating that "children will not read the ad if they are run in newspapers."

The Japanese government's public announcements were focused primarily on newspapers and TV, and they initially only intended to run the ads in newspapers. The ads displayed relevant information regarding bullying, such as the numbers for help phone lines, the kanji also had furigana attached to them.

The anti-bullying ads will also run in Hakusensha's shoujo manga magazine Hana to Yume No.1, on sale December 5th.
