Premiere Event For North American Comic and Manga Fans Set The Stage For Announcements Of More Than Twenty New Titles For 2008

In the latest issue of Publishers Weekly Comics Week, Kai-Ming Cha interviews mangaka Arina Tanemura, who made an appearance at Viz's SDCC Shojo Beat panel last week. Also from PWCW are some more in-depth reports of this year's SDCC.

MangaCast reports that Fanfare/Ponent Mon has announced the following title at this year's SDCC:

  • Summit of the Gods by Yumemakura Baku/Taniguchi Jiro

Del Rey has posted on their SDCC blog some covers for their new licenses, as well as some exclusive art from Nina Matsumoto's new manga, Yokaiden.

ANN reports that CMX has announced more manga during its Sunday panel at Comic-Con:

  • A Girl Who Runs Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shojo) by Gaku Tsugano
  • Teru Teru x Shonen by Shigeru Takao
  • The Flat Earth Exchange by Toshimi Nigoshi

Also confirmed is that no edits will be made to the newly announced Crayon Shin-chan manga.

MangaBlog and The Beat both have a list of the winners from this year's Eisner Award. While many manga were nominated for the award, only Old Boy by Tsuchiya Garon and Minegishi Nobuaki won the award for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material - Japan. ANN reports that VIZ Media has announced several new manga licenses during its Shojo Beat panel (which featured special guest Arina Tanemura):

  • Ion by Arina Tanemura
  • Time Stranger Kyoko by Arina Tanemura
  • Kanshaku Dama no Yuuutsu by Arina Tanemura
    - Tanemura's debut short story anthology, to be released under the title Short-Tempered Melancholy.
  • B.O.D.Y. by Ao Mimori

From Publishers Weekly's Kai-Ming Cha comes a report on this year's Comic Con. According to the article, CMX has licensed Yoshito Usui's Crayon Shin-chan:

DC's CMX manga line has licensed the Crayon Shin-chan manga. Created by mangaka Yoshito Usui, Crayon Shin-chan is also an anime adaptation that currently broadcasts on Adult Swim. (Funimation announced the anime license at last year's Comicon.)
