May, 2007According to a poster from the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Kyosuke Usuta's Pyuu to Fuku! Jaguar will be adapted into a live-action movie sometime next year. Also an anime series is being planned, which will be distributed through the use of DVD. Source: animeOnline
According to reports, the manga in question began serialization in 1997, and was adapted into novels, movies and more. Although the series was popular, many considered it to be harmful due to its disturbing murder scenes. According to updates of the Fanime 2007 coverage from Broccoli Books Blog, Murder Princess creator Sekihiko Inui will be starting a new series titled Ratman in the August issue of Shounen Ace (6/26): According to Moon Phase, Katayama Kentarou (Author) and Yamamoto Yamato (Illustrator)'s light novel series Kure-nai will be adapted into an anime. Kure-nai is currently published under Shueisha's shounen light novel label Super Dash Bunko. Source: LightNovel.org From animeOnline comes an in-depth report of Broccoli Books at Fanime 2007. According to the report, Broccoli Books editor Shizuki Yamashita hinted at a "potential Disgaea works in a 'new medium' that Broccoli USA has not yet done." Also included are release dates of Broccoli Books titles, and various Broccoli merchandise news. From the Broccoli Books Blog comes a report of the first day of Fanime 2007. The report is written by staffs from Broccoli Books, and focuses on Sekihiko Inui's (Murder Princess, Comic Party) tour and impression of the event. The Japanese Embassy in the U.K. will be holding an exhibition called Manga Jiman (漫画自慢) from June 11th to June 19th. The Embassy will also host a manga seminar titled "What is Manga?" and a major manga-writing competition in conjunction with the exhibition. Redlands, CA, May 24, 2006 - Iris Print, publisher of the Lambda Literary Award finalist novel "A Strong and Sudden Thaw", announced today its plans to publish the first North American boys' love magazine, BL Twist. On the USA Today Booklist Top 150 for the week ending May 20th, Volume 14 of Viz's Naruto is the only manga on the list, ranking at #78. The new comic release list for May 23rd 2007 from ComicList, compiled by MangaCast. Additional Rankings: Japan's Foreign Minister Taro Aso announced on Tuesday the creation of a "Nobel Prize of Manga" for foreign manga comic artists in hopes of spreading Japan's pop culture overseas. Candidates for the new international manga award will be nominated by the general public as well as publishers from Japan and overseas: ICv2 has released the April 2007 top 100 graphic novel sales estimates and the top 300 comics sales estimates based on Diamond Indexes and Publisher Title Data. Also from ICv2 is an analysis of the trends in April based on the graphic novel sales chart. Tokyograph translates two business manga-related surveys from Oricon. The first survey asked its readers what manga they would like to see turned into a television drama, the results are:
801 Media blog points out that Amazon.com has added a new Yaoi category to its online store, showing yaoi is finally being recognized by Amazon as its own category instead of just a shojo sub-genre. MangaCast points out that Del Rey has acquired Basilisk author Masaki Segawa's Yagyu Ninja Scrolls. The manga, which was licensed during NYCC, is currently listed on Del Rey's release schedule for Q4 2007 (PDF). The first volume will be released in October 2007. A new manga titled Shirogane no Karasu by Akimine Kamijyo, mangaka of Samurai Deeper Kyo, will begin serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine issue 26, on sale 5/30. Source: Ultimatum Talk The Connichi 2007 in Kassel, Germany is proud to announce that seiquu and singer Halko Momoi will perform live on this years Connichi. Haruko "Halko" Momoi started as a singer of the girl-group "UNDER17". After the group parted in 2004 she began her solo career as seiyuu ("Soul Taker", "Nurse Witch Komugi-chan", "D.C. ~Da Capo~", "DearS", "Final Fantasy: Unlimited", "Paranoia Agent") and also as solo singer. She also writes j-pop songs, writes books, has her own radio show and is also an actress.
Also, according to this post, a new series titled Peacemaker by Ryoji Minagawa (Spriggan, Project ARMS) will begin serialization in the July issue of Ultra Jump, on sale June 19th.
