Japan Football Museum to Hold Captain Tsubasa Exhibition

The Japan Football Museum announced that a special Captain Tsubasa Exhibition hosted by Captain Tsubasa creator Yoichi Takahashi and Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump will start on July 21st. The exhibition's theme will be "Everyone was once a 'Captain Tsubasa.'"

The exhibition, held at the special exhibition zone on floor B2, is directed toward the Beijing 2008 Olympic, and aims to support the Beijing Olympic Games - Asian preliminary round "with the 'help' of Captain Tsubasa's protagonist Tsubasa Oozora." Adult entrance is 500 yen and 300 yen for elementary to middle school students.

The exhibition will be divided into four zones. The first zone, "TSUBASA World," will feature graphics describing Tsubasa Oozora and players from the team U-23 (from the manga Captain Tsubasa Golden 23), as well as presentations from Yoichi Takahashi and presentation of related goods.

The other three zones include the popular characters exhibition "TSUBASA X World Wide Player," the scenario exhibition "TSUBASA Library," and "TSUBASA 10," which will feature a timeline of the manga as well as classic moments centered on "frienship," "competitiveness" and "fighting spirit" taken from the story.

Captain Tsubasa is a soccer manga by Yoichi Takahashi that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1988. The manga is the most popular sports manga in the world, and had a great impact on Japanese soccer. A sequel titled Captain Tsubasa: "World Youth" Saga was serialized in Shonen Jump between 1994 and 1997. Another sequel, Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002, appeared in Weekly Young Jump between 2001 and 2004. The latest sequel, Captain Tsubasa: Golden 23, began serialization in Young Jump in 2005 and is still running.
