EventLegendary comic creator Wendy Pini ("ElfQuest") will be appearing at manga publisher Go! Comi's panel at New York Comic Con to announce a major new project, which she describes as "darkly exciting and adult oriented." The panel will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 24th. Wendy will be joined by her husband, Richard Pini, for an autograph session at Go! Comi's booth (#564) at 3:00 PM immediately after the panel. According to the latest entry on Vertical's blog:
The mascot for the 3rd China International Animation and Cartoon Festival has been announced. The mascot, a currently unnamed monkey, is based on Son Goku from Journey to the West (Saiyuki), one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Celebrating Corocoro Comic's 30th anniversary, a special event will be held by Shogakukan at the Suginami Animation Museum in Tokyo from February 27 to May 27. Any aspiring individuals - from novices to professional digital artists - with an interest in creating digital art and comics will have the opportunity to submit and showcase their work, and stand a chance to win the coveted title of "ComiIdol 2007"! Many of the Island's institutes of higher learning, including Singapore Polytechnic, ITE College Central and LASALLE-SIA College of Arts, have already pledged their support for, and entries to, "ComiIdol 2007". New York Comic Con (NYCC) has announced that the Saturday tickets for the convention has been sold out on its website, but are still available through many comic retailers. Also, the tickets will be sold in limited quantity in order to avoid overcrowding: The World Cosplay Summit takes place every year in Japan. This year 11 countries are participating. Cosplayers from each country will participating in teams of 2. In 2006 marked the entrance of Brazil in the event (and later the Brazilian pair became the winner). This year, Mexico will be entering the contest (along with Brazil, China, Italy, Thailand, Germany, Singapore, France, Mexico, Spain and sure, Japan). An event called "A Half Century Of Shojo Manga" was held on January 31st as part of a commemorative exhibition held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Japan Media Art Festival. The event featured speeches from four popular shojo manga artists: Moyocco Anno, Keiko Takemiya, Watanabe Masako and Machiko Satonaka.
