Death Note Movie Breaks Hong Kong Box Office RecordsThe Death Note movie began playing in Hong Kong theaters on 8/10. According to reports, the movie took in 1,030,077 HKD (approximately 130,000 USD) in its first day, making it the highest-grossing Japanese movie to ever hit Hong Kong in the past 10 years. Although the movie did not do as good as Hollywood's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (1,287,497 HKD - approximately 160,000 USD), it was played in fewer theaters than Pirates of the Caribbean, thus its average box office sales is still higher. |
