Manga Artists Sue Former Manga Pirates for 22 Million Yen

imgOn March 14th, 11 manga artists filed a 22 million yen lawsuit for "illegally distributing copyrighted works without permission." against the 2 men who operated the manga download site 464.jp.

The website, 464.jp, hosted manga scans that amounted to over 17,000 volumes, including 1,300 titles by nearly 700 authors. In February 2006 the men were arrested and later found guilty of copyright infringement. In June 2006, 464.jp was relaunched as a website that aims to raise new manga artists.

The group of 11 manga artists include:

  • Chiba Tetsuya (Tommorrow's Joe/Ashita no Joe)
  • Hara Tetsuo (Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken)
  • Hojo Tsukasa (City Hunter)
  • Inoue Takehiko (Slam Dunk, Vagabond)
  • Kitami Kenichi (Tsuri Baka Nisshi)
  • Kurashina Ryo (Zenibana)
  • Murakami Motoka (Musashi no Ken)
  • Motomira Hiroshi (Salaryman Kintaro)
  • Nagai Go (Devilman)
  • Saitou Takao (Golgo 13)
  • Uoto Osamu (Ninja JaJa Marukun)
