40% of Japanese Consumers Downloaded Manga

ANN reports that according to a survey conducted by i-mode of 5,400 people conducted by Infoplant, over 40% of the people have downloaded manga in the past:

Out of the people surveyed, 91.8% knew of the existence of manga downloads, and 40.2% had actually downloaded a manga title before. Furthermore, out of the people who downloaded manga and specified their gender on the survey, women outnumbered men 43.6% to 34.4%. The overwhelming majority of these women were age 19 or younger (61.7%).

The most notable point of this survey is that this is “全国のiモードユーザーおよそ5400人に対して行ったアンケート”, which means “an i-mode-based survey of 5,400 people.”
ANN translated this Japanese sentence as “a cell-phone-based survey…”, but I think their translation is wrong.
Because i-mode is just one of wireless provider services in Japan.
