In early July, Production I.G. announced its plan to acquire manga publisher Mag Garden on December 1st, 2007 through a stock swap. Production I.G. has been experiencing a steady decline in profit for the last three and a half years. Last week Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Economic Times) interviewed the president of Production I.G., Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, about the merger of the two companies and their business strategy. A new manga titled Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya will start in the November issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Comptiq Ace. The story will be based on Type-Moon's Fate/stay night, Hiroshi Hiroyama will be in charge of the art. The new series is illustrated by Yuka Nagate, and follows the story of Toki, a character from Fist of the North Star. Also, a new manga titled Legion by Fujisawa Yuuki, creator of Metro Survive, began serialization in Akita Shoten's Play Comic No. 17 (8/23). Moon Phase reports that a new manga titled Moriguchi Orito no Teiou Gaku will begin serialization in the February 2008 issue of Dengeki Daioh (on sale 12/21). Comi in association with the New York Anime Festival and TheOtaku.com today announced the first contest devoted to manga fan-comics, known in Japan as doujinshi. The contest is based on Go! Comi's best-selling manga series "Black Sun, Silver Moon," by Tomo Maeda. The series is the story of the complex relationship between the enigmatic zombie-hunting priest Shikimi and his apprentice Taki, who is destined to kill him. An illustrator named Masaya Miyashita (39) from Matsuyama city was arrested for creating and selling obscene manga. Police confiscated 6,600 manga during the arrest. According to reports, the artist ordered 17,000 copies of his work from a printing company in Okayama Prefecture, and even allowed doujin bookstores to sell the manga in Tokyo and Kanagawa last year. Tokyograph reports that Moyoco Anno's manga Hataraki Man will be adapted into a drama series this fall, with Miho Kanno starring as the lead character. Takeshi Obata, artist of Death Note and Hikaru no Go, illustrated the cover for the novel. According to Yomiuri Shimbun, the novel has already sold over 75,000 copies just a month and a half after its re-release. According to the report, the combination of classic novel and popular manga artist was one of the main reason behind the revised edition's popularity. Comi and the organizers (same people behind NY Comic-Con) of the New York Anime Festival to hold the Go! Comi and theOtaku.com Doujinshi Contest. The deadline is November 1, all artists are encouraged to send in their five-page doujinshi based on Go! Comi's Black Sun, Silver Moon by uploading the entry to the New York Anime Festival section of theOtaku.com. Back in Febraury, Kadokawa Shoten revealed that the popular seinen manga MPD Psycho, written by Eiji Otsuka and drawn by Sho-u Tajima, will be moved from Shonen Ace to Comic Charge. MPD Psycho resumed serialization with the release of Comic Charge issue 11 (8/22). Also beginning in Comic Charge issue 11 is Masaaki Nakayama's Maigo Man, a preview of which is available here. A new series titled Angel High School by Inugami Sukune will begin in the September issue of Sunday GX (8/18), the same issue that Shin Angyo Onshi ended in. A new manga titled Reisen Shoujo by Souichi Hon began serialization in Manga Action No. 17 (8/21). On 8/21, Kadokawa Shoten released a special issue of its Monthly Shonen Ace magazine titled Neon Genesis Evangelion Complete Compilation.
