The announcement of a Chinese film version of Slam Dunk has triggered an immense response from fans within China. Diehard fans of the Slam Dunk anime were exceptionally critical, fearing the classic series would be ruined just like what happened to the novels of Jin Yong (the film version of the novels weren't exactly great). The diehard fans declared that they would target the lead role actors Li Xue Qin (Kaede Rukawa) and Li Yi Lin (Hanamichi Sakuragi). The fans trash-talked the actors on bulletin boards, some of the more extreme SD fanatics announced that they plan to attack the two actors in an effort to prevent them from destroying the image of Slam Dunk.

The Hong Kong Ani-Com/ 3rd Hong Kong Game Fair is finally over, and this year's attendance figure is the highest ever. 80,000 showed up on the opening first day, the average attendance number over the weekend is 112,000, and the final night of the convention saw 78,000 fans attend. An estimated 490,000 people attended this year's Hong Kong Comic Fest over the course of 5 days, which is 16% higher than last year's numbers.

The 2006 Hong Kong Comics Festival (8th Hong Kong Ani-Com/ 3rd Hong Kong Game Fair) will take place between 7/28-8/1 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year an estimated 480,000 people are expected to attend. Companies and officials from Mainland China are expected to attend, and will be discussing the future of Anime/Manga in China with the help of Hong Kong's market.

Chibi Maruko-chan by Momoko Sakura has sold over 10,000,190 copies in China, becoming one of the best-selling "official" manga in China.

A new Chinese manga anthology called Shounen Longman Sunday (Longman: Dragon Comic) will start in July. The new monthly magazine (comes out on the 1st) will serialize popular Japanese Shounen Sunday series such as Detective Conan and Inuyasha.

In an effort to promote the relationship between China and Japan, a group of 30 manga artists will be visiting China from June 19th to June 24th under the name of "Japan China 21st Century Friendship Committee." The group will be visiting Chinese cities such as Shijiazhuang (Hebei Province) and Dalian (Liaoning Province), and will be demonstrating manga-drawing techniques at various universities.

Together with Japan China New Century Association, the Beijing Films Academy has founded the China Japan Anime Manga Research Center in its school. The center will realize the school staff's wish - to increase the school's quality of the technical aspects of its anime and manga field with the help of Japan. According to the JCNCA's wish, the center will also help promote Japanese images in China through its anime and manga.
