MangaZenkan.com, an online manga shopping site selling only complete sets of old manga series, opened in August and instantly became famous. The online store's business experienced a great start, as the site has sold more than 20,000 manga in just one month. Recently another online manga store, ZenkanDokuha.com (全巻読破.COM), supported by Prima Project Corporation in Kawasaki city, opened on October 16th. Like MangaZenkanm, ZenkanDokuha focuses on selling complete sets of old manga. Leiji Matsumoto (68) is known for creating Space Battleship Yamato, Captain Harlock, and many other classic series. Recently Leiji Matsumoto announced that parts of his script from Galaxy Express 999 has been stolen by the 37 years old J-Pop singer and songwriter Noriyuki Makihara, and was used in the singer's lyrics in Chemistry's recent album "Yakusoku No Basho" (Promised Place). Although Leiji Matsumoto said that he won't incriminate the singer, he Noriyuki Makihara will apologize to him: "We are interested in his next action." According to Leiji Matsumoto, the phrase stolen came from volume 21 of Galaxy Express 999: "時間は夢を裏切らない、夢も時間を裏切ってはならない" (The dream never fails the time, and the time also never fails the dream.) The phrase was also used in the live-action play of Galaxy Express 999. In the "Promised Place," the phrase was modified into "夢は時間を裏切らない、時間も夢を決して裏切らない" (The word order is reversed). A new scholarship from Inoue Takehiko, called Slam Dunk Scholarship, was established for aspiring Japanese students planning on attending South Kent School in Connecticut "to learn English, play basketball ball, and try to get into an NCAA team." The scholarship is open to people attending 2nd-year highschool as of this October 06, loves b-ball, is born after April 2nd '89, and has parental consent. Application forms will be availalbe in January 2007. Manga top 10 according to Tohan. A new Iron Wok Jan manga from Shinji Saijyo will begin serialization in Weekly Shonen Champion No.50, on sale 11/9. The new series will be titled "Iron Wok Jan: Summit Battle" According to the latest Weekly Jump Early Release Info, a new Bleach artbook will be released on December 4th. Norihiro Yagi's Claymore (currently being serialized in Monthly Shonen Jump) will be adapted into an anime TV series. More information will be available in the December issue of Monthly Jump, on sale 11/6. According to Weekly Jump, rumor has it that three current Weekly Jump series will be dropped soon, to be replaced by three new series:
Japanese blog Kodomo no Mousou recently posted a review of the book "The Secret of Osamu Tezuka's Original Pictures." According to the review, "the all-color illustration book is simply wonderful."
A special Detroit Metal City event took place last weekend at Tower Record in Shinbuya, where author Kiminori Wakasugi held an autograph session. Special products, T-shirts, and limited edition items were also sold. Detroit Metal City is a seinen/comedy manga by Kiminori Wakasugi currently serialized in Hakusensha's Young Animal, and the story revolves around a hard rock band. |
